My Early Years

Dreamweaver CS3I graduated from The University of Maine at Orono with a Bachelor's degree in history as a member of Phi Alpha Theta Honor Society.

I began writing fiction while in Grade School but never really gave it much thought until I entered college. I took several courses in composition, persuasive and analytical writing, and creative narrative writing. Once out of school, began to submit my fiction shorts to various magazines and websites and was lucky enough to have stories published in several of them.

Here's just a few:

Peeks & Valleys Literary Magazine

Midnight Times

Thuglit

I gradually strayed into writing for nonfiction magazines and had some of my "how-to" style articles published in local and national periodicals including The Employment Times and The Maine Edge. The editor at the Edge, Katy England liked the content I was providing so much that she asked me to contribute to the publication on a regular basis and I have continued to do so.

My Copywriting Experience

Though I've been writing professionally for seven years, I've only been in the copywriting business a short time. I came in with a leg up over other such amateurs because I spent four years being trained how to distill information from large, unmanageable chunks into tight, precise, and poignant prose.

The demand for quality copy is so high that even in that short time I've had considerable success, gained valuable experience, and added several repeat customers to my list of preferred clients.

I have written:

  • Sales Letters
  • Web Copy
  • Affiliate Articles
  • Flyers
  • Press Releases
  • Newspaper Articles
  • and even an odd Product Review
  • Efficient and Effective!

It sounds corny to say this but my father, Bob Palmer, is the one who taught me my work ethic. He was born and raised in A Laptop Computeran era when a man's handshake was as good as his word and if a man said he was going to do something, it got done.

Some of you local folks from the Ellsworth area might remember him. He was a sheriff's deputy with Hancock County Sheriff's Department for twenty-some years but before that, he made a living as a carpenter and general contractor. During that time, he built several houses on prime ocean-front properties on the exclusive summer resident hideaway islands of Islesford and Great Cranberry--just a stone's throw from Bar Harbor Maine--from the ground up. But unlike some of his competitors, he never got rich. It wasn't because he wasn't in demand (he worked for fishermen and rich folks alike) it was because he always treated people fairly, finished the job as promised on time the first time--every time, and refused to over-charge or "pad" his invoices for the work he did. In doing so, he made many friends out of his one-time clients.

I'm not my father but I still do believe in and hold true to those values he taught me. I think that's the way any business--every business--should be run.
